Open Jar project wins an EMMY!

The journey of NYCNext started on August 15, 2020 with a simple email ask: New York needs us, who is in to help?

While there were many issues facing New York, it was clear that we needed to change the narrative and bring back joy, to give us hope and energy to tackle the difficult problems and days ahead.
So many of you answered the call and stepped in. We started with pop-ups, producing a total of 14 across the five boroughs, gathered love letters to NYC and developed an ad campaign to remind us all of why New York was alive and kicking. And we didn’t stop there.

In December, as the city began to open, we dreamed up the ultimate love letter to New York City. Thanks to Billy Joel who was kind enough to grant us the rights to use “New York State of Mind,” and amazing musicians, artists, and volunteers of all kinds, we produced a video which broke in August of 2021 and garnered over 2.5B impressions.
This past Saturday that video, NYCNext’s “New York State of Mind,” won an EMMY!
Thank you to each and every one of you in the NYCNext community. You made this possible. We hope you feel as proud as we do - of our effort, of our community, and of our city. There’s so much we can do when we come together.
Congratulations!The NYCNext team
