Director of Marketing & Associate Artistic Director

Hugh Hysell has served as marketing director of over 200 Broadway and Off Broadway shows (including Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Jersey Boys, and others), drove membership and single ticket sales for performing arts centers (NYU Skirball and others) led sales channels for multiple e-commerce sites (Groupon, BroadwayBox and others), and activated grassroots street teams for over 50 Broadway shows, films and TV series and broke all sale records as Director of Marketing for Broadway Records. He holds the Globes Award for Best Small Budget Promotion in the World.

As a producer, he has produced on Broadway (two Tony Awards, two Drama Desk Awards, and an Outer Critics Circle Award), Off Broadway, Off Off Broadway, and around the country.

As an educator, he is currently an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Hhe has taught at Columbia University, University of Florida and has been a returning guest artist/lecturer at universities across the country including New York University, University of West Virginia, University at Buffalo, Hunter College, Marymount Manhattan College, Baruch University and others. He has spoken on educational panels for Commercial Theater Institute, Broadway in the Classroom, Broadway Speakers Bureau, Theatre Resources Unlimited and others. For 12 years he served as Chair of the Seminar Series for the Off Broadway Alliance, covering most aspects of producing Off Broadway shows.

As Broadway began it’s reopening post-pandemic, Hugh was General Manager for the Broadway Covid Safety Team (operated by Swiftest), managed an active team of up to 360+ full and part time staff members, serving 18 Broadway theaters, 6 Off Broadway stages, 4 national tours as well as many large events. The team proudly facilitated the COVID Safety for over 2.2 million patrons at 2500+ performances
